Our 5 Favourite Ways to Unwind

16 May 2022

Sometimes the weeks are so busy you don’t even know which way is up and which is down - we’ve all been there. And with so many things going on in the world, it can become overwhelming at times - we’ve been there too. But amidst all the chaos, deadlines and responsibilities, you’ve gotta take some time for yourself.

It’s not selfish; it’s called self care. We loooove a little self care moment at Glaize, and whatever that looks like to you, it might be good to incorporate it into your routine every now and then.

Here are a few of our favourite ways to unwind when things get a bit much:

1. Applying a fresh set of Glaize nails

This had to be the first on our list, obviously ;) The Glaize team all have their preferred ways of applying their nails, whether that’s in front of the tv with a glass of wine or on the tube straight out of the office.

Usually, for a very relaxed self care session, applying Glaize gels with a cute series or movie on in the background and a glass of your fave wine (or cup of tea if you prefer) is a really soothing way to unwind. We can highly recommend!

Add a face and hair mask while you’re at it and you’re in for a real treat.

2. Lazing in a bath full of bubbles

Oh bubble baths, what a classic (for good reason though). Have you had a long, hot, full bubble bath lately? Because it’s not high up on the list of favourites for nothing. It’s truly one of the best ways to calm your mind.

Muscles are instantly soothed, the delicious-smelling bubbles ease you into a state of relaxation and the hot water is like a hug!

3. Singing out loud

A bit of a strange one for unwinding but you’ll be surprised at how good for the soul it is to turn up the volume and sing along loud and proud to your fave tunes.

Instead of screaming all your frustrations into a pillow (although, that can be super helpful sometimes, too), channel that energy into shouting out your favourite lyrics and jumping around the living room. Not only will you feel some of that weight lift off your shoulders but it’s a pretty good workout at the same time. We love a two-for-one!

4. Writing out your thoughts

Cliche but this works. Writing out everything that’s on your mind can often help you discover what’s actually bothering you or has been niggling at you for a while. Sometimes you don’t even realise that it was anything in particular and suddenly, writing out your thoughts is like an epiphany.

This is a surefire way to help clear your head, which will in turn help you to unwind more. It’s pretty crazy how our thoughts can cause so much stress, even when we’re not exactly aware of them. So grab a pen, a cute notebook (always a cute notebook) and scribble to your heart’s content.

5. Taking an hour to do something you love

The pace of the world is crazy and can easily leave us with little time to do the things we are passionate about. A great way to wind down is to consciously put aside an hour or two to do a hobby or something you don’t often get the time to do.

Things like painting, reading, exercising, playing sports, playing around with makeup or whatever your hobby is, can be the best thing for your mind to reset and refresh sometimes.

There are so many things you can do when it comes to how you prefer to relax and calm the mind. Unwinding might look very different to each of us but once you find the thing (or things) that work for you, keep them in your routine as much as possible. We all need some self care for our own well being.

Self care definitely isn’t selfish, it’s necessary. And one last thing, if none of the above works, try talking to yourself as you’d speak to a puppy (you’ll feel amazing):

- Hello little cutie

- You’re such a good girl!

- Go on, have another treat

- Aww, you deserve a nap

- Look at that pretty face
