Nail Tips: How to Stop Biting Your Nails

5 April 2023

Hey there! Are you a nail biter? Don't worry, you're not alone.

Onychophagia, or nail biting, is a common habit that many people struggle with. But fear not, we've got some tips and tricks to help you kick the habit and achieve those luscious, healthy nails you've always dreamed of!

1. Keep your nails short and sweet 🍭

One way to reduce the temptation to bite your nails is to keep them short. When your nails are short, you have less surface area to bite and chew on. Additionally, short nails are less noticeable and may not trigger the urge to bite as much.

2. Trick your brain 🤔

Another effective strategy is having your nails done with gels or nail polish and using bitter-tasting solution on your nails. Eventually, your brain will get the message and stop tempting you to bite altogether.

3. Identify the triggers 😦

Next, identify your triggers. Do you tend to bite when you're stressed or bored? Once you know what sets you off, you can find ways to avoid those situations or manage your emotions in a healthier way, like deep breathing or yoga.

4. Find alternative behaviours 🧘‍♀️

Don't stop just there! Find alternative behaviours that give your hands something else to do. Squeeze a stress ball, twirl a pen, or chew gum - anything that distracts you from those nails.

5. Reward yourself! After all,  you've earned it...

Last but not least, reward yourself! Breaking a habit takes effort, so treat yourself when you hit milestones. Maybe it's a movie night or a new book. Whatever it is, celebrate your progress and keep pushing forward.

With some patience and determination, you can say goodbye to nail biting and hello to healthier, happier hands.

Remember to be kind to yourself throughout the process and celebrate your progress along the way :)

Don't give up - you've got this!
