#GlaizeTalks: We Sit Down with Textile Artist Amy Hastings
If you love the colour pink and all things 90s, you’ll definitely love our new nail art stickers collection with Amy Hastings.
This collection offers you a range of different designs to choose from. From alien heads to strawberries, you're sure to find something that tickles your fancy.
We sit down with the artist herself, to discuss how she discovered her love for textiles and design, her inspiration and more!
Q: Can you introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
A: Hi, I’m Amy! I’m an artist based in York, UK. My work consists mainly of gouache illustration, rug tufting and ceramic decoration although I love working in many different areas.
Q: How did you get started with textiles and design?
A: I studied textiles and surface design at university and have always had a passion for art and design throughout my life. My work started to get recognised on Instagram during lockdown in 2020 and I haven’t looked back from there!
Q: What do you love most about the collection you’ve created?
A: I love that it’s a true representation of me and my style. I’ve managed to use all my favourite designs for the decal sheet and I can’t wait to see people using them.
Q: Do you have a favourite design?
A: I think the two Staffordshire dogs are my favourite, I use them a lot in my work and they’ll look so cute on a pair of nails.
Q: What interested you in working with us and hat are you most excited about regarding this collab?
A: I’m always getting tagged on Instagram by nail artists using my work as inspiration for their sets, and I’ve been asked to make nail decals a few times before. I was so excited when Glaize contacted me to collaborate! I’m also looking forward to seeing all the creative ways people will use the decals.
Q: Where do you draw most of your inspo from?
A: I’m hugely inspired by anything kitsch, vintage ceramics/ trinkets - I love Staffordshire dogs and cats. Lots of my work is also inspired by childhood nostalgia from the 90s / 00s. I also love colour and the way different colours work together, I have quite a limited palette that I like to use in most of my designs.
Q: What’s your favourite part about the design process? (with textile work and other design work)
A: My favourite part of the design process is definitely the initial drawings / paintings, it’s really therapeutic for me. I also love seeing all the work come together at the end as well, when you can see an initial idea turn into a product it feels amazing!
Q: What is something you need that gets you into the perfect creative headspace?
A: I always listen to podcasts or music while I’m working, it really helps me concentrate on whatever I’m working on and can also be quite inspiring.
Q: Where does your love of pink come from?
A: I’m not 100% sure, I’ve always loved it and it has featured in probably every design I’ve ever done (even if it’s the tiniest amount). I just think it brings designs to life and it’s the only colour I can think of that works with every other colour - I’ll always love pink!
Q: What’s your favourite part about seeing your designs inspiring nail art?
A: I love that it’s a medium I’ve not explored and probably will never explore, and the different interpretations of my work through nail art. Nail artists are so skilled with how they recreate artists work in such tiny detail, I’m always so impressed!
Q: One word to describe your style?
A: Pink!
